Today I wanted to post a few helpful hints to use with your child at home that will support his/her learning experiences within the different academic areas.
Language Arts:
~Read for 20 minutes each night with your child - they read to you and you read to them
~Play rhyming games
~Have your child read the labels on cans, boxes, or bags
~Play "I Spy" - "I spy with my eye something that starts with...(then name the letter)"
Writing:
~Have your child make a shopping list with your help
~Give your child a notebook to use as a journal
~Have your child write a list of specific things
~Practice handwriting
Math:
~Practice math facts with your child
~Practice counting forwards and backwards, starting from random numbers
~Have your child practice counting using everyday objects
~Tell your child a story problem and see if he/she can solve it.
Science:
~Encourage your child to explore their world
~Visit a museum
~Go on a nature walk
~Conduct simple experiments at home
Social Studies:
~Allow your child to explore their community
~Create a map of your community together
